The Center for European Studies and the Center for American Studies invite you to participate in the 2nd National Scientific Conference "Conflict, freedom, power".
WHEN?
The conference will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025, between 4:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. online on the Microsoft Teams platform.
The exact length of the conference depends on the number of speakers. In the event of a high number of applications, we reserve the right to extend the conference to Saturday, April 12, 2025.
WHAT IS THE CONFERENCE ABOUT?
The main idea of the conference is an interdisciplinary discussion focused on three topics: conflict, freedom and power - both collectively and individually - from the perspective of social sciences and humanities, such as law, psychology, sociology, cultural studies, media studies, philosophy, political science, anthropology or economics.
Speeches may concern contemporary times as well as history and cover any selected geographical areas (Poland, Europe, the world).
PROPOSED (EXAMPLE) THEMATIC AREAS
•History and sociology of conflict.
•Different views on freedom.
•Power. What is it? What should it be?
•Which authority is best? Democracies, authoritarianisms and other systems.
•Conflict and democracy: challenges to freedom and power.
•Freedom in the digital age: threats and opportunities.
•Power and human rights: relationships and challenges.
•Freedom of speech versus media regulation.
•Multiculturalism: conflicts and opportunities for dialogue.
•Education for freedom: the role of the educational system.
•Ethnic conflicts and minority rights.
•Power in social media.
•Challenges for human rights in crisis situations.
•Social movements: fight for equality and freedom.
The thematic areas indicated above are examples only - we strongly encourage you to go beyond their framework.
Moreover, the presentations may be interdisciplinary in nature, combining various fields of science.
We believe in freedom of academic discussion and do not censor speeches for ideological or political reasons.
Original and unique speeches will always be appreciated by the Scientific Committee.

• We cordially invite students and PhD students, experienced researchers, as well as all other people interested in the conference topics to actively participate in the conference.
• Passive participation does not require any scientific qualifications.
